The Motivations Driving Founders To Exit
Exit does not equal retirement.
But I hear the ‘R’ word mentioned a lot when chatting to business owners about their exit strategy.
No wonder some endlessly delay their exit if they associate it with retirement. Because entrepreneurs never retire — there’s always another adventure ahead.
From what I see, owners who exit ‘too late’ don’t really decide it. The decision is made for them, with a sub-optimal outcome.
It’s more common these days for owners to exit for another reason: They have other things they want to do with their life that were sacrificed building the business. After all, we only get one life.
When you get it right, a successful exit returns you many years of profit — without having to stay and generate it by running the business.
Which means you can reinvest returns into your next venture or build financial freedom through higher-yield investments.
