Stop Relying On AI For Hiring
I keep hearing that AI is the future of hiring, that it will revolutionise recruitment and help businesses find the perfect candidate. But will it?
We’re implementing AI across many of our businesses, but I remain sceptical about its effectiveness in filtering candidates. So far, every AI-driven hiring system I’ve seen has significant flaws.
From experience, the best hires aren’t always the ones who check every single skills box. The real value lies in hiring someone with most of the right skills, but with the potential to grow into the role.
A candidate who is a 100% skills match might quickly become disengaged or be the wrong cultural fit — both of which are far more damaging to a business in the long run.
And that’s where AI struggles. Identifying a person’s ability to evolve within a role, their mindset, and their cultural fit is not something an algorithm can do well — yet.
Filtering CVs or applications based on rigid AI criteria risks missing out on exceptional talent.
Get to know the candidate yourself. AI still has a long way to go before it can replace human instinct and judgement in recruitment.
